Description
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a very gentle, rhythmic technique that encourages the movement of lymph fluid. Unlike a typical massage, there's little pressure at all; the work is light, precise, and surprisingly calming. Clients often seek MLD to help manage post-surgical swelling, puffiness, and that heavy, congested feeling.
Is this right for you?
MLD is commonly booked after surgery (including cosmetic procedures) once your surgeon approves manual therapy, for swelling management, and by clients who want an exceptionally gentle treatment. If you have a medical condition affecting your lymphatic system, check with your healthcare provider first; we're happy to work within their guidance.
What to expect
Sessions at our St. Albert clinic are quiet and gentle; many clients doze off. Pressure is feather-light by design; that's what makes the technique effective. MLD sessions run 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Common questions
When can I book MLD after surgery? That's your surgeon's call; most clients are cleared within a few weeks. Bring any post-op guidance you've been given and your therapist will work within it.
Why is MLD so light? Will it still do anything? The lymphatic vessels sit just under the skin, so light, directional strokes are exactly what moves fluid. Deeper pressure would actually work against the goal.
