Description
Deep tissue massage is focused, intentional work on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Using slow strokes and sustained pressure, your registered massage therapist works through chronic tension, adhesions ("knots"), and restricted movement patterns that lighter work can't reach.
Is this right for you?
Book deep tissue if you have persistent, specific tension: a shoulder that never lets go, a low back that tightens every week, hips that feel locked from sitting. It's a favourite of tradespeople, lifters, and desk workers alike. If you prefer a gentler, full-body experience, consider a therapeutic or relaxation massage instead.
What to expect
Deep doesn't have to mean painful. Effective deep tissue work happens at the edge of intensity, not past it. You should always be able to breathe through the pressure, and your RMT will check in as they work. Some next-day soreness is normal; drinking water and gentle movement help.

Common questions
Will deep tissue massage hurt? It's strong, deliberate pressure, but it should never make you tense up or hold your breath. Tell your therapist what you're feeling; the treatment works best inside your tolerance, not beyond it.
How many sessions until I feel a difference? Many clients feel meaningful change after one or two sessions; long-standing patterns may take a short series plus the stretching or movement your RMT suggests between visits.
